SUMMARY:Conservation Psychology & Guided Landscape Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join the New Jersey School of Conservation for this hybrid event that tackles the real-world challenge of motivating neighbors\, local leaders\, and communities to embrace sustainable practices. \nHow do we move past frustrating arguments over lawn care\, native plants and land use to inspire real environmental stewardship in our communities? Join us at the New Jersey School of Conservation on Saturday\, October 3rd\, for a special workshop exploring Conservation Psychology — the science of changing environmental behaviors by meeting people where they are. \nProgram Highlights\n• Virtual International Keynote: World-renowned conservation psychology expert Dr. James Danoff-Burg will deliver a live presentation from abroad on the mechanics of behavioral change. Learn why trying to “convince” people often backfires and how finding common ground can unlock lasting stewardship — drawing on global success stories\, such as shifting Maasai lion hunting traditions into wildlife protection\, to curiosity-driven suburban strategies like the Homegrown National Park movement.\n• Guided Landscape Walk: Dr. Frank Gallagher of Rutgers University will then lead a hands-on walk across NJSOC’s 240-acre campus\, translating conservation psychology concepts into physical ecological history across five field stops: \n1. Native American Land Management: Examining historical stewardship practices visible on site.\n2. Glacial Geology: Physical features left behind by the Wisconsin glaciation.\n3. Agricultural History: Reading past farming footprints in tree species and pollen records.\n4. CCC Legacy: Tracing the 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps’ impact on the landscape.\n5. Rapid Modern Change: Observing climate shifts\, disease impacts\, species migration\, and a special stop to view wild American chestnut trees recently identified on campus grounds during prep surveys. \nWho Should Attend?\nThis workshop is open to all — including educators\, master gardeners\, university students\, conservation professionals\, and residents looking for practical tools to make a difference in their communities. \nRegistration is open for both on-site attendance and remote participation. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Rutgers Disability Awareness Month
DESCRIPTION:Join the Inclusive Healthy Communities for this Webinar on Creating Systems Change to Advance Disability Inclusion: The Inclusive Healthy Communities grant program and PSE Change \nIndividual accommodations open a door once; systems change keeps it open\, even after the funding ends. This session\, offered as part of the Rutgers Disability Awareness Month programming\, makes the case for centering systems change in disability-inclusion work\, showing how policy\, systems\, and environmental (PSE) strategies move communities beyond one-off fixes toward accessibility that lasts. Using real examples from Inclusive Healthy Communities (IHC) grantees and featuring Shelley Levy from the Kaplan JCC on the Palisades and Jenna Sistad from Neighborhood Connections to Health\, we’ll look at the policy and systems changes they achieved\, what made those changes stick\, and how macro-level work strengthens direct-service and advocacy efforts. You’ll leave with practical ideas for building systems change that outlives its funding into your own disability-rights portfolio. \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Power of One Group: How Disability Activism Transformed the Nation’s Oldest Transit System
DESCRIPTION:Join the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center for this webinar that tells the powerful story of a community of people with disabilities who came together to demand change within the nation’s oldest public transit system. At the center of the story is the landmark class action lawsuit Daniels-Finegold et al. v. MBTA\, which challenged the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority to provide accessible public transportation. \nWhat began as a fight to make it possible to catch a bus or train became a broader movement to confront systemic failures\, transform public policy\, and elevate understanding of disability and access to create lasting change. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Neuroplasticity: Your Brain Can Keep Healing
DESCRIPTION:Join GOT ABI for this webinar on post brain injuries. \nAfter a brain injury\, it can feel like progress has stalled. The good news is that your brain can still learn\, adapt\, and build new connections. Think of a road blocked by a fallen tree after a bad storm: you find a new way around the fallen tree. Your brain works in a similar way and can make new paths around the blockage. The good news— the more you use the new path\, the easier it gets. Jaime Pierson\, physical therapist\, will explain how this works in plain language\, why practice and repetition matter so much\, and why improvement is still possible months or even years after an injury. You’ll leave with simple\, practical ways to keep moving forward at home. \nJaime Pierson is a physical therapist and co-owner of Empower Rehabilitation & Wellness\, a mobile practice that brings therapy right to people’s homes in Southern New Jersey. She specializes in helping people recover after stroke and other brain injuries\, and in helping older adults stay safe and independent. Jaime is a Certified Stroke Rehabilitation Specialist and is certified in vestibular (balance and dizziness) rehabilitation and concussion care. Her love for this work started early in her training\, and her patients remain her “why.”
